A Digital Product Design Portfolio

Hi there. I’m Fraser.

I’m a digital product designer. That means I love learning about people’s problems and finding ways to solve them. Sometimes that means inventing new technology, sometimes it’s about repurposing existing technology, and sometimes we may not even use technology at all.

I take a wholistic approach to design. Often talking directly with the people we’re trying to help, and observing them to learn their pains. Delving into any existing product or marketing data. Using rapid prototyping techniques to prepare prototypes we can learn from. Iterating around a tight user feedback loop to get the right solution.

Somedays I’m knee deep in Sketch, or preparing design sprint workshops, or analysing usability tests, or writing code, or any of the other manner of things it takes to ship solutions.

✏️ What have I actually designed?

Here are three stories about projects I’ve delivered.

  1. Nickelled 2 – pay your design debt, a major UX design overhaul of our SaaS platform.
  2. The Mission Dock – A new product researched, designed and developed for delivering website walkthroughs right where they’re needed.
  3. Shutl Price Calendar – A JavaScript drop-in for major e-commerce retailers to provide same-day delivery in their checkout flows.

🖌 Other projects

Here are some other things I’ve been involved in making.

Remote Zoo (Founder)
A distributed job board for remote jobs to help people find jobs related to their passions. Think Google Display Ads for remote work.

Nickelled (Co-founder, Head of Product)
Nickelled helps SaaS companies convert their users from trial accounts to paid accounts using step-by-step guides.
Featured on Mashable, ConversionXL

Shutl
Same-day delivery service, delivering your online orders to your door in 90-minutes. The record is under 15 minutes! The company was acquired by eBay in 2013.
Featured on BBC, Wired, Mashable, TechCrunch

20Cubed (Maker)
A popular Chrome extension for computer users to look after their health. Built in a weekend. My first foray into calm tech.
Featured on Fast Company, Lifehacker

Police National Database
Consolidation of UK Police force data into one application for detectives to query, find connections between crimes and lock up the bad guys.
Featured on BBC, The One Show

(Plus additional projects across e-commerce, finance and defence).

😍 Things I’d love to work on

Ideas are cheap. They come and go. But some stick around. Why are these curiosities unshakeable — are these the areas we should working on?

These are my unshakeable curiosities. If you need a Digital Product Designer for…

  • Home farming (e.g. aquaponic systems)
  • AR and VR
  • Smart cities
  • Calm technology – living harmoniously with technology
  • Protecting and training our attention
  • Reducing human consumption (e.g. minimalism, conscious consumerism, zero waste)
  • Travel (I’ve been a digital nomad for 3-years+)
  • Helping people find remote work they love
  • Specialty coffee.

… please reach out to me.

🤝 Let’s work together

If your team has a Digital Product Designer role that needs filling, reach out. I can help you identify and solve your customers’ problems, prototype solutions (using code and tech like Sketch and InvisionApp) and build delightful products (with tech like Node.js, Angular, Ruby, Sass, AWS, Heroku).

Send me a message here on Medium or Twitter or LinkedIn.
